Personal statement

Xin Yuan joined the Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde in 2025, worked as a Senior Lecturer (Strathclyde Chancellor's Fellows&Associate Professor). Before joining the University of Strathclyde, He worked as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the School of Engineering of the University of Aberdeen, Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, and Research Associate at the PEMC Group of the University of Nottingham, UK. He received a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China, and he was also a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He was a World's Top 2% Most-cited Scientist by Stanford University in 2024 and received several external research grants in Hong Kong and the UK, including the UK-Royal Society, HK-ITF and EU-Horizon Europe funding agencies. He has more than 15 years of experience working on DC/AC, DC/DC, and AC/DC power conversion and his research interests include electric vehicle, electric ship, wind turbine, and aircraft transportation applications. He has published over 50 academic papers and 4 patents, and served as a Guest Editor, Technical Track Chair, Special Session Chair, Associate Editor and Reviewer in different international journals and conferences. His speciality mainly contains the high-efficiency/fault-tolerant/low switching frequency/EMI suppression AC machine control and high-power density integrated multilevel WBG power converter hardware design with EMI suppression.
